ரொரன்ரோ மத்தியில் மார்ச் 13 காலை 6.30 மணிமுதல் முற்பகல் 11 மணிவரை கனேடிய தமிழ் இளையோரால் மாபெரும் கவனயீர்ப்பும் வீதி மறியல் போராட்டமும் முன்னெடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. 6.30 மணி முதல் ரொரன்ரோ மத்தியில் அமைந்துள்ள யங் மற்றும் ஷெப்பார்ட் சந்திப்பிற்கு அருகில் திரண்ட இளையவர்கள் தமிழீழ விடுதலை வேண்டியும் தமிழ் மக்களது அவலத்தைப் போக்க நடவடிக்கை எடுக்குமாறும் ரொரன்ரோ நகரின் மிக நெரிசல் மிக்க முக்கிய சந்தியை மறித்துக் கவனயீர்ப்பில் ஈடுபட்டனர். இந்த வீதித் தடைப் போராட்டம் தொடர்பான ஒரு வாக்கெடுப்பை சிபி24 என்ற ரொறன்ரோ செய்தி நிறுவனம் இணையத்தில் நடத்துகிறமை குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.
தமிழீழத்தின் தேசியக் கொடியை ஏந்தி நின்ற இளையவர்கள் “விடுதலைப் புலிகள் மீதான தடை நீக்குங்கள்” “தமிழீழத்தை அங்கீகரியுங்கள்” போன்ற கோசங்களை எழுப்பி வீதியின் குறுக்கே படுத்து ரொரன்ரோவின் பிரதான சந்தியினை மறித்து நின்றனர். தமது கோரிக்கைகள் செவிமடுக்கப்படாது விடப்படுமானால் தம்மீது வாகனத்தைச் செலுத்தினாலும் தாம் அங்கிருந்து அகலப்போவதில்லை என ஆர்ப்பாட்டத்தில் ஈடுபட்டிருந்தனர். வாகனநெரிசல் அதிகமாகவுள்ள காலை 8 மணியளவில், சுமார் 45 நிமிடங்களிற்கு மேலாக வீதியில் போக்குவரத்திற்கு தடை ஏற்படுத்தப்பட்டிருந்தது.
தமிழீழ தேசியத்தலைமையை அங்கீகரிக்குமாறும், தமிழீழ விடுதலையை அங்கீகரித்து இலங்கைத் தீவில் தமிழனத்திற்கு சுய நிர்ணய உரிமையைப் பெற கனேடிய பல்லின சமூகம் தமிழினத்திற்கு ஆதரவு வழங்க வேண்டும் என்றும் கேட்டுக்கொண்டனர். தமிழர் தாயகமெங்கும் கட்டவிழ்த்து விடப்பட்டுள்ள இன அழிப்பை இனியும் கனேடிய இளைய சமூகம் பொறுத்திருந்து பார்க்காது என்றும் இளையவர்கள் கோபாவேசமாகத் தெரிவித்தனர். ஆர்ப்பாட்டம் ஆரம்பமாகி 30 நிமிடங்களிற்குப் பின்ன அவ்விடத்திற்கு வந்த காவற்றுறையினர் வீதிப் போக்குவரத்தினை சீர்படுத்துவதற்காக கலகம் அடக்கும் காவற்றுறையினரின் உதவியையும் நாடினர்.
ஆயினும் தொடர்ந்து தமது ஆர்ப்பாட்டத்தை மேற்கொண்ட கனடிய தமிழ் இளைய சமூகம் காவற்றுறையினருடன் தமது ஆர்ப்பாட்டத்தின் நோக்கம் தொடர்பாக உரையாடினர். இவ் ஆர்ப்பாட்டம் தொடர்பாக கருத்துத் தெரிவித்த இளையவர்கள், ‘எமது உறவுகள் நித்தம் அழிக்கப்பட்டு இன அழிப்பினை சிறீலங்கா அரசு முன்னெடுத்து வருவது தொடர்பாக எமது கனடிய அரசிற்கு நாம் அமைதி வழியில் எடுத்துரைத்தோம். அதனைத் தடுத்து நிறுத்த ஆவன செய்யுமாறு வேண்டினோம். எதுவும் பயனளிக்கவில்லை. அந்நிலையிலேயே நாம் இப் போராட்டத்தை முன்னெடுக்க நிர்ப்பந்திக்கப்பட்டோம். இன்று நாம் இவ் வீதி மறியலில் ஈடுபடுவதற்கா முழுக் காரணமும் கனடிய அரசினையே சாரும்’ என்றனர்.
தொடர்ந்து அவர்கள் தெரிவிக்கையில், எமது இத்தகைய ஆர்ப்பாட்டத்தினால் பலரும் தங்கள் பணிக்குச் செல்வதற்கு இடையூறு ஏற்படும் என்பதை நாம் அறிவோம். ஆயினும் எம் கண்முன்னே ஓர் இனம் அழிக்கப்பட்டுக் கொண்டிருக்கையில் அதைத் தடுத்து நிறுத்தவேண்டிய பணி அனைவரிடமும் உள்ளது. அந்த வகையில் எம்மினம் அழிக்கப்படும் போது, அதனைக் காப்பதற்காக நாம்தான் போராட வேண்டும். அத்துடன் இந் நாட்டின் மக்களின் வரிப்பணம் இலங்கைக்கு உதவி என்ற பெயரிலே அள்ளிக் கொடுக்கப்படுகிறது. அந் நிதியுதவிகள் அனைத்தும் எம் இனத்தை அழிக்கும் நடவடிக்கைக்காக சிறீலங்கா அரசால் பயன்படுத்தப்படுகிறது. தங்கள் பணம் எவ்வாறு இனப்படுகொலைக்குப் பயன்படுத்தப்படுகிறது என்பது தொடர்பாக நாம் இந் நாட்டு மக்களிற்கு இதன் மூலம் தெரியப்படுத்துகிறோம். ஆகையால், இதன் மூலம் மக்களிற்கு தாங்களும் இவ் இனப்படுகொலைக்குக் காரணகர்த்தாக்கள். தாங்களும் இதற்கெதிராகக் குரல்கொடுக்கவேண்டும் என்ன உண்மை எம்மால் புரியவைக்க முடியும் என்றனர்.
ரொரன்ரொ மத்தியில் ஏற்பட்ட வீதி நெரிசலால் பல்லின ஊடகங்களின் கவனத்தையும் இக்கவனயீர்ப்பு நிகழ்வு ஈர்த்துள்ளமை குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. கனடியத் தமிழ் சமூகத்தில் இவ்வாறான சாலைமறியல் நடவடிக்கைகள் சட்டத்திற்குப் புறம்பானது, இவை தவிர்க்கபட்ட வேண்டும் என்ற எண்ணவோட்டத்தினால் இவ்விளையோரின் முயற்சிக்கு அவர்களது ஆதரவு குறைவாக இருந்தது கவனிக்கப்பட்டது. ஆயினும், இவ்வாறான நடவடிக்கைகள் பாரிய அளவில் அனைவரது ஆதரவோடும் செயல்வடிவம் கொள்ளும் போது இவ்விளையவர்களினால் பெறப்பட்ட கவனயீர்ப்பை விட அதிகளவில் பெறமுடியும் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. காலையில் இளையோர்கள் அணிதிரண்டு இந்தப் போராட்டத்தை யாரும் எதிர்பார்க்காத வகையில் நடாத்தியமை கனேடிய தமிழர்களின் போராட்டங்களில் புதிய திருப்பு முனையாக அமையும் என பலரும் நம்பிக்கை வெளியிட்டுள்ளனர்.
அத்துடன் இன்று 16ம் திகதி திங்கட்கிழமை கனடிய மாணவர் சமூகமும், அனைத்துத் தமிழ் சமூக அமைப்புக்களும் இணைந்து பாரிய மனிதச் சங்கிலி நிகழ்வொன்றினை ரொரன்ரோ மாநகரின் மத்தியில் ஏற்பாடு செய்துள்ளமையும் குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

Im not condemning the whole community but…. i have witnessed a few protesters who are visible upset at other torontonians for not supporting their cause, almost to the point of aggression. A gentleman commented on “freedom and self determination” but that works both ways. If a few are not showing the same courtesy and respect then they are not practicing what they are preaching. Again i dont promote hate, genocide or any atrocities but if you dig deeper, you will find there beloved LTTE has committed atrocities against there own people in the “so called fight for justice”. But that gets lost in translation. Just some food for thoughts my fellow Canadians.

This has gone far enough
Although i do support the right to free speech and democratic ideals of this wonderful country, I cannot support this idiocy going on downtown. What you are witnessing is utter desperation on the part of the protesters. They know full well that this is last ditch effort before the Sri Lankan army roots out this terrorist regime and a brings some peace to a troubled country. These protesters are just taking advantage of “Canadian” tolerance and leniancy for there own agenda. We should be concerned with Canadian issues that affect us living in this country instead of another country’s problems. Perspective ladies and gentleman, the community is large so they can skew what is actually going on in “their” country. Ask any of them if they are willing to go back and live there? Then note the answers and decide for yourselves.

Okay…I sympathize with the issue…., but you will gain little support by having a silent “war” with the population of Toronto. You can’t expect to tie up the momentum of the city and create a consequential loss of money for business and expect hoorays! Make your point(s) in protest, yet acquire the media attention by collecting or marching your mass where it wouldn’t be at the expense from those whom you want support. You have LOST mine ’cause your location and timing of an interruptive walk has cost me and a number of my fellow Torontians.

Today’s protest may take you a little longer to get home. The protesters may also be pushy and overcrowd the TTC and GO stations and congest traffic. Keep in mind, the little struggles you have to go through today is nothing compared to the struggles both Tamil and Sinhalese people go through in Sri Lanka. How can you compare getting home a little bit later to a little girl being raped or to a mother being shot? Please be a little bit informed and sympathetic to the situation and support the Tamil people who are out there today fighting for what they believe in.

Hard Earned Western Values
The right to express their sufferings to the world is a basic human right, we value the most in western world. These are peace loving people contributing significantly to Canada. I heared Sri Lankan Government will not allow even a single protest or writing. Ten or twenty people can protest for fun but a community protesting knowing that the peak time, means something definitely SERIOUS. We failed when Rwandians did like this. We should not fail to listen and act.

While I am sympathetic
to the plight of the Tamils in Sri Lanka, surely the tactic of blocking traffic for everyday people is not helping their situation. Perhaps a protest at a official Sri Lankan consulate at st. clair and yonge might be a better target for the demonstration, so the people who they need to talk to will hear them. Or instead of blocking traffic, it might be better to talk to people on the street about the issue. Have people hand out leaflets throughout the downtown to inform people here (who probably have no idea that there is a war currently going on in Sri Lanka) about the plight of the Tamils there.

Please tell me how the Indian Consulate is going to assist these people, did I miss something? Is Sri Lanka part of India? I agree however that there is a better way, this does nothing to help your cause. Canada is not going to change its mind and say that the LTTE is not a terrorist group. There are many Tamils in Toronto who have been victimized by the LTTE. The situation is complicated and since we have no real frame of reference Canadians should do a lot of research before having an opinion on this matter.

Understanding Tamils..
Our media and some government of Sri Lanka lobbying groups tried to brand the whole Tamil community as ‘terrorist’. This is why these people need to come to streets and show that they support Tamil Eelam. If the media spends some time to understand the Tamils and get the stories to the fellow Canadians, this protest should be avoided.

These guys are claiming ethnic cleansing, but they are forgetting the fact that the LTTE is a terrorist organization that has killed innocent people without remorse including the prime minister of another country.
