இலங்கை வந்துள்ள ஐக்கிய நாடுகள் சபையின், மனிதாபிமான பணிகளுக்கான துணைத் தலைமைச் செயலாளர் ஜோன் ஹோல்ம்ஸ் இன்று வவுனியாவில் இடம்பெயந்தோர் தங்க வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ள மெனிக்பாம் முகாமுக்கு விஜயம் செய்த்hர்.
இடம்பெயர்ந்தோருக்கு அரசாங்கம் வழங்கியுள்ள வசதிகள் குறித்து மகிழ்ச்சி தெரிவித்த அவர் இடம் பெயர்ந்தோர் நலன் பேண 10 மில்லியன் அமெரிக்க டொலர்களை வழங்குவதாகவும் உறுதியளித்தார்.
மீள் குடியேற்றம் மற்றும் அனர்த்த நிவாரண சேவைகள் அமைச்சர் ரிஷாட் பதியுதீனும் இந்த விஜயத்தில் கலந்துகொண்டார்.

வவுனியாவில் செய்தியாளர்களிடம் கருத்து தெரிவித்த ஜோன் ஹோம்ஸ், “மக்களுக்குத் தேவையான கூடாரங்களை அமைப்பது, குடிநீர், சுகாதார வசதிகளை ஏற்படுத்துவது. உணவு வழங்குவது போன்றவற்றில் பெரிய அளவில் முன்னேற்றம் ஏற்பட்டிருப்பதைத் தெளிவாகக் காணமுடிகின்றது. அரசாங்கம், ஐநா அமைப்புக்கள், தொண்டு நிறுவனங்கள் உள்ளுர் அதிகாரிகள் அனைவரும் இணைந்து ஒரு குழுவாக இந்த பாரிய பிரச்சினைக்குத் தீர்வுகாணும் வகையில் செயற்பட்டு வருகின்றார்கள். இருந்தாலும் இந்தப் பணிகளில் இன்னும் நீண்ட தூரம் செல்ல வேண்டியிருக்கின்றது” எனக் குறிப்பிட்டார்

Ministry of defence has refused to send the IDPs from Omanthai to Mannar. This means Vavuniya will have to accommodate over 100,000 civilians who came out since Monday..
About 70,000 of them have been sent to schools and detention camps in Vavuniya after the screening. There have been complaints from people who went to the Arunachalum camp today that the newly arrived people have not been given lunch yet. Vavuniya hospital has capacity to accommodate only 600 patients but currently there are over 1500 patients. People have no change of cloth and in the hospital they are still in torn cloths with blood stain. Some volunteers who went there said many patients are not in a position to do anything on their own and are in lifeless condition. Hospital is unable to provide them meals and couple of NGOs have helped to meet this need temporarily. They have also transferred some patients to Puvarasankulum hospital. It was discussed that Gamini School and CCTM School will be used as hospitals and Vavuniya hospital patients will be transferred there.
Apparently at Omanthai check point people are kept in buses for many hours and few injured civilians have died inside these buses. Only few NGOs are allowed to drop off water and food supply at Omanthai point for these civilians. General supply in Vavuniya is running out and bottled water, biscuits and glucose are in short-supply.
