இதற்கிடையே நேற்று (மே 15 2009) கைது செய்யப்பட்ட கடற்புலிகளின் தளபதி சூசையின் மனைவி வழங்கிய தகவல்களின் படி எல்ரிரிஈ தலைவர் வே பிரபாகரன் புலனாய்வுப் பிரிவுப்பொறுப்பாளர் பொட்டு அம்மான் ஆகிய முக்கிய தலைவர்கள் இன்னமும் அங்கேயே இருப்பதாகத் உள்ளதாக இலங்கை இராணுவம் தெரிவிக்கின்றது.

”we have a humanitarian crisis that’s taking place in Sri Lanka, and I’ve been increasingly saddened by the desperate news in recent days. Tens of thousands of innocent civilians are trapped between the warring government forces and the Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka with no means of escape, little access to food, water, shelter and medicine. This has led to widespread suffering and the loss of hundreds if not thousands of lives.
Without urgent action, this humanitarian crisis could turn into a catastrophe. Now is the time, I believe, to put aside some of the political issues that are involved and to put the lives of the men and women and children who are innocently caught in the crossfire, to put them first.
So I urge the Tamil Tigers to lay down their arms and let civilians go. Their forced recruitment of civilians and their use of civilians as human shields is deplorable. These tactics will only serve to alienate all those who carry them out.
I’m also calling on the Sri Lankan government to take several steps to alleviate this humanitarian crisis. First, the government should stop the indiscriminate shelling that has taken hundreds of innocent lives, including several hospitals, and the government should live up to its commitment to not use heavy weapons in the conflict zone.
Second, the government should give United Nations humanitarian team access to the civilians who are trapped between the warring parties so that they can receive the immediate assistance necessary to save lives.
Third, the government should also allow the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross access to nearly 190,000 displaced people within Sri Lanka so that they can receive additional support that they need.
The United States stands ready to work with the international community to support the people of Sri Lanka in this time of suffering. I don’t believe that we can delay. Now is the time for all of us to work together to avert further humanitarian suffering.
Going forward, Sri Lanka must seek a peace that is secure and lasting, and grounded in respect for all of its citizens. More civilian casualties and inadequate care for those caught in resettlement camps will only make it more difficult to achieve the peace that the people of Sri Lanka deserve.”

We call on the Sri Lankan Government too to take note of the President’s call and do everything possible to stop a blood bath unfolding.
The LTTE has relentlessly fought for the rights of our people for over three decades and will always do what is best for them. President Obama’s recent remarks gives us hope that at last he has taken an active interest in the plight of our people. A military solution will not end the current conflict. A lasting, respectful and equitable solution for our people can only be reached through political means. We have always shown our preparedness to enter a political process as long as all parties were willing to act faithfully to the process.
Encouraged by the hopeful words of President Obama the LTTE is again stating its categorical position to enter a political process facilitated by neutral international parties and find a meaningful solution to the ethnic crisis. It is the best option for all people living in the island of Sri Lanka. Both the Sri Lankan Government and us, we together have to find a solution and a way to resolve the crisis. An onslaught by the Government will only result in thousands more dying and will not pave a way for a dignified and respectful outcome. We are ready to cooperate and work towards peace as Mr Obama has insisted.”

Last call from Prabakaran to KP
(Lanka-e-News, 16.May.2009, 1.30 PM)A source linked to an Italian intelligence firm said that LTTE leader Vslupillai Prabakaran has talked to his right arm associate Kumaran Pathmanathan alias KP, the LTTE’s international arms dealer, over a satellite phone.
The phone call was made around 2 AM on May 07 from Sri Lanka to Malaysia, says the intelligence bureau that is monitoring the communication of the international terrorist organizations. The LTTE leader asked KP to assume the leadership of the LTTE and lead the struggle following any circumstance within the coming few days. He has urged KP to work with the people mentioned in an email he has sent. Prabakaran has asked to carry on the struggle since the conditions are good for the Ealam struggle internationally, the Intelligence bureau.
The voice of the LTTE leader was feeble because he might have been ill or angry, said the bureau adding that the voice matching software has proved that the voice was Prabakaran’s.
Political observers say that Prabakaran’s phone call can be a crucial one since the LTTE leaders were sending their wives and families to Army-held areas since the following May 15.
